And
here is the answer to the last question. The river Honddu flows
into the Wye at this point and that is what gives us Aberhonddu
in Welsh. Simple isn't it!
Up above you will see the castle and I know what you are thinking
- " Why is it built right up to the hotel?" Everybody
asks me that so, for the very last time, here is the explanation.
Those Normans and all the others who tried to conquer us had to
build loads of castles and we kept knocking them down and it wasn't
long before they got a bit short of money so what they did here
was to go and ask the hotelier if they could build against his
wall to save a bit of money. The hotelier thought about it for
a very short while and, in view of the prospect of an awful lot
of thirsty men living next door, hastily agreed. The hotelier
had the best part of the deal when you think that the hotel is
still there while the castle is in ruins. So, now you know.
