In
1936 Dylan meets Caitlyn Macnamara who was, at the time, the lover
of the artist Augustus John, he meets her again at Laugharne some
months later and the relationship developed resulting in their
marriage in July 1937. In May 1938 they move to Laugharne to a
house generously provided for them by Margaret Taylor, the wife
of the historian A J P Taylor. This man had big connections. Caitlyn
recognised Dylan's talent and was very supportive. They both enjoyed
enjoyment in its many forms. Dylan's talent was, by now, recognised
by the BBC and he appeared in poetry programmes and wrote scripts.
Their first son, Llewellyn was born in January 1939 and Dylan
now had responsibilities, he developed the art of writing begging
letters, which reminds me of the story of the chap who won millions
on the pools. "What are you going to do about the begging
letters?" His friend asked him. He replied "Oh, I shall
keep sending them!"
