And
this is what you see on passing through the gate and after a short
walk through the wood. It is an old British village and when I
say British that means Welsh because in those days we occupied
most of what we now call Britain. It is uncertain how far this
goes back in history but certainly it was here in the time of
the Romans. The settlement covers about half an acre and this
was taken from the north west corner. The perimeter wall is a
double wall, the space between would have been filled with rubble
but this would have been a farming settlement rather than a defensive
stronghold.
