I had measured
our route on the map and it came out as a distance of 7 miles,
mainly flat apart from a six foot rise at the last and only lock
followed by an excruciating five steps on the final stage just
before the cafe. I just hope we can cope with it. As we walk along
we have glimpses of the river Usk flowing persistently beneath
us on the right and occasional sightings of Pen-y-Fan on our left.
Most of our travelling lives we see the world as a road upping
hills and downing dales, we are having a different perspective.
Man has made this particular world as flat as he could. Do you
think perhaps it was canal walking that gave members of the Flat
Earth Society their inspiration?
As you can
see this is a French barge destined to chug its life slowly along
the canal.
