I was in school with Dick Evans' son Derek and one morning there was great talk about an event that occured the previous evening. It intrigued me and I enquired further and found out that some of my class mates had been watching television, "Television, what's that?" I asked "Its like a wireless with pictures," they told me and as that concept was so baffling to me I was invited down to Derek's house that evening and while we were watching some cowboy adventure there was an almighty bang which everyone else knew was the maroon going off - I just ran down the street after them to the lifeboat house and witnessed my first and only launch of a lifeboat. It is an amazing memory, still vivid in my mind.
