This
cluster of monastic buildings is on the site of a monastery established
by St Seiriol in the 6th century AD. St Seiriol was a great friend
of St Cybi who had his monastery at Holy Island (Holyhead). My
father loved telling the story of the weekly visits that the two
saints had, they would both set off early and meet at Llanerchymedd.
As St Cybi would be walking into the sun he would sport a suntanned
face while St Seiriol's face would be pale. Apparently therefore
they were known as Cybi the Dark and Seiriol the Fair. And when
you think of it that sounds very Welsh, doesn't it!
