We have now
crossed the bridge and have reached the remote chapel of Soar
y Mynydd but our journey has not been uneventful by any means.
Remember what I said about those timber lorries? Well I had seen
one approaching and with no layby in sight I managed to squeeze
myself onto a grass verge, the lorry looms above me and the driver
raises his hand in acknowlegement. Luckily I had seen the second
one and stayed where I was and two minutes later he passed by.
It struck me that they must have their own arrangement where they
all come into the area in the morning and out in the afternoon.
Anyway after that excitement we have reached the chapel and it
is clad in scaffold so here is a photo of the inside.
The chapel was built in 1822 by Ebenezer Richard who was a minister
in Tregaron. In those days there was a larger population in the
area as sheep farming was the industry and the forestry had not
been planted. Although the chapel is far from anywhere services
are still held and are well attended. It is the most remote chapel
in Wales.
