The
gold colour on the crest of the weir is not an indication of the
presence of gold deposits but a reflection of the autumn colours
in the trees above. So put away your wok and waders, there is
nothing to go panning for - not in the way of gold anyway. Behind
the weir lies the stilling basin which absorbs the energy in the
water coming off the top of the dam and gives a protection against
erosion.
