The
hotel is close to Lake Padarn although the lake is not in view from
the hotel, the grounds are extensive and wooded and bordering the
wood is this castle. It is very significant in Welsh history as
it is where Prince Llewelyn imprisoned his elder brother Owen to
ensure he was not able to make claim the title bestowed upon his
younger brother by his grandfather Llewelyn Fawr. Owen was eventually
released and, along with the other brother, Dafydd, became a thorn
in Llewelyn's side right to the end in 1282. |
