Nowadays the
Blue Lagoon's whole purpose is leisure but there is history here.
This was not always open to the sea, rather it was a slate quarry
and the slate was transported by a narrow guage railway to Porthgain,
which we will see in a while, the slate was not of the highest
quality but just looking at the vast hole that has been quarried
quite a lot must have been sold. When the quarry was working it
was obviously not called the Blue Lagoon and it was after it closed
that local fishermen blasted out the entrance to form a natural
harbour for their boats. Even the fishing has now declined and
the leisure industry has taken over, Abereiddi Quarry is now The
Blue Lagoon and very popular with the coasteering fraternity.
