Any
visitor to Pwlldu on being told that the only two buildings there
were originally inns would, quite rightly wonder - why? They would
be amazed to know that the inns actually thrived, but you Dear
Reader, having taken a stroll down here and listened attentively
to my every word will know the answer. Quarrying, breaking and
loading limestone was backbreaking, thirsty work and don't let
us forget those West Country sailors who plied the channel. The
boats would come in on one tide and would be there until the next.
What else could a sailor do? Pwlldu even had its own malthouse
and both inns brewed their own beer.
