Lliw Valley Reservoir

Just a short walk this week because of various comittments on the day which was quite fortunate as it turned out because the walk that we chose provided us with colours, reflections, fungi and fun.

Well, see for yourselves!

It was about 12.45 when we started and the sky was an uniform light grey but there was no wind.

That created mirror quality water to reflect the rich colours of autumn as you can see from this photograph that Mike took.

While Mike was busy with his shot across the water Dave had seen this leaf and moss-clad rock and duly captured its serenity.

Lliw Reservoir is a complex of two reservoirs a mile apart and these first two images were taken at the very start, not far from the cafe to which we will undoubtedly visit on our return.

Mike had seen an opportunity away from the Tarmaced path. Here he is totally immersed, there was obviously something special down there and we wondered what it was.

And here it is, a dreamy, misty stairway of water, how he spotted it so far from the track I have no idea. Just goes to show that sometimes it pays to wander off the track

We sauntered along a bit and then came across this bit of intrigue. What does it mean? Why would someone create a plait such as this and attach it to a strip of barbed wire.

Answers on a postcard please!

Perhaps this old sage will know . Let's ask him. "What's the meaning of the plaited thing on the barbed wire?" we ask.

"I'll tell you if you will tell me the meaning of life" he answered.

"42!" we answered in chorus but he wouldn't believe it. "It must be more than that - more like 63" he said. He wouldn't answer our question.

"But I will tell you this," he said "if you come here when the moon is full and put your ear to this hole you will be given the first installment of the secrets of the universe, followed by the next day's inaccurate weather forecast"

"Ok, so when did they start building this reservoir?" we asked

"Easy, 1886 and finished in 1894" he said.

Then we had a masterclass from Dave who showed us how to get really close to nature.

Quite a clever chap is Dave and A Fun-Guy to boot!

And every walk write-up has to have a point and here is Dave making it.

But what is he pointing at?

"Look at this!" he's shouting, "we didn't believe him but he was right."

Yes, Alan's always right, we should know it by now.

And here ends a most enjoyable walk.
